Multi-Color Ni’ihau Shell Choker Necklace: Poepoe Kahelelani #2779-06

Description

NI'IHAU SHELL CHOKER POEPOE KAHELELANI PUA KE'OKE'O, AKALA, ULA ULA, MAKU'E AND KAMOA DOUBLE POLEHOLE APU'UPU'U 20 INCH (2779-06)

Expertly crafted on the island of Ni'ihau Hawai'i, this necklace is truly a work of art.

Strung in the PoePoe style, the shells interlace to create a consistent spiraling pattern. All shells are of the Kahelelani (Turban shell) variety with shades of Akala (pink), Ula Ula (red), Maku'e (brown/tan), and Ke'oke'o (extremely pale pink) shells. Each end of the strands are finished with a well-matched pair of 26-28mm Pōleholeho (decorative shell which conceals a hook and eye closure) of the Apu'upu'u (bumpy cowrie) variety.
Typically referred to as a 'choker', this necklace measures approximately 20 inches in length and sits higher on the collar than a lei.
