August babies have three birthstones to choose from, peridot, sardonyx and spinel.

Peridot is know for its bright lime color. Here in Hawaii they’re also known as the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire. It is also believed to bring magical powers and is more valuable and rare in stones over 5 carats.
The least familiar of The August Birthstones ,Sardonyx have a salmon like marbling, often used for cameos. The stones have a reddish color with flat bands of white from which the profiles are carved.
Spinel is most widely known as a ruby imposter. It comes in many colors such as vivid red, cobalt blue, bright pink and bright orange. Burmese Spinel is hot pink with tints of orange.
