Hand-crafted on the island of Ni’ihau Hawaii, this three-strand lei is truly a work of art.
Strung in the Kipona style, this piece features a variety of shells and stringing techniques.
The shells are a mix of Momi (dove shells) with Ke’oke’o (white/off-white) coloration, Kamoa (clipped dove shell tips) in Ke’oke’o (white) and Lenalena (yellow), and Kahelelani (turban shells) in the colors of Ula Ula (red), Oma’oma’o (green/tan), Ele Ele (black/dark brown), and Maku’e (burgundy).
The ends of each strand are connected by a 26mmX18mm Pōleholeho (decorative shell used to secure strand ends) of the Apu’upu’u (bumpy cowrie) variety.
This lei features three strands which measure approximately 32, 36, and 38 inches in length (roughly 19 inches when worn).
