NI’IHAU SHELL LEI 3 STRAND KIPONA POLEHOLEHO APU’UPU’U 36 INCH WITH EARRINGS (LG072922-05)
Hand-crafted on the island of Ni’ihau Hawaii, this unique Lei and Earring Set is truly a work of art.
Strung in the Kipona style, each of the lei’s three strands displays a variety of shells and stringing techniques.
Shells are of the Momi (dove shell) and Kahelelani (turban shell) varieties. The Momi shells come in the colors of Kahakaha (deep gold with darker stripes), Onikiniki (white with dark brown stripes), and Lenalena (yellow/off-white), while the Kahelelani shells display shades of Kamoa (yellow), Ele’ele (black/dark brown), Ōma’oma’o (green/tan), Lenalena (yellow), Kui Akala (a rare ‘hot pink’), and Ke’oke’o (white/off-white).
Each strand of the lei is connected together by a 31mmX22mm Pōleholeho (decorative shell that conceals the string ends) of the Apu’upu’u (bumpy cowrie shell) variety with a superbly matched color.
The lei measures approximately 37 inches long, creating a 18.5 inch “drop length” when worn.
The earrings features a single strand and, measures approximately 3 inches in length. French Hooks allow for easy use in pierced ears.
