Description
Unique Somenzi ring has soldered plate inside hollow shank that is stamped 18K 750 ITALY 757AL . Diamonds are single cut round brilliant VS/GH clarity/color with an estimated total weight of approx. 0.28ctw. Emerald eyes are medium green with an approx. total weight of 0.03ctw. Enamel is thick and transparent, and is in very good condition.
Ring is size 6 and weighs 23.5 grams. Circa 1960

Somenzi opened his namesake store in his hometown, Cremona, Italy in the early 1950s, to immediate success. He was not only a jeweler, but also a man of art and culture who contributed to the restoration of the Grand Silver Cross of 1478, housed in the left aisle of the Cathedral of Cremona. He was authentically passionate about his work. In 1960, Somenzi was encouraged by his client Prince Karim Aga Khan, who was building Costa Smerelda along the Sardinian coast, to open a store in Porto Cervo, Italy. With this encouragement, La Bella Blu was one of the first jewelry stores built in 1962. Recognized as the "Jeweler to Audrey Hepburn", Somenzi enjoyed numerous celebrity clients including the Beatles, Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly, Princess Margaret, and Jackie Kennedy. He expanded his business in the 1980s, opening a store in St. Moritz for the winter season. Throughout the 1980s, Somenzi was a known local jeweler to the stars. In 1994, Somenzi decided to close his stores. He felt the mood of society had changed to the point where being rich and famous drew attention at the cost of discretion. When he retired, Somenzi locked his entire collection in a vault in Cremona and walked away. The vault remained closed for 25 years, only opened due to his passing in 2018. Somenzi's timeless designs are now available to the public once again.
